About Louis van Marissing

“The artistic act is a remedy for the incomplete fragmentary form of life.” This quote of the art historian Arnold Hauser is the lifelong theme in the work of Louis van Marissing. Everyday we literally are balancing material realities with our imaginations. On this conjunction we create personal forms (life-style, profession, habits, art) to deal with the contemporary complexities. ‘Seismographics’ is a series in which he is allowing outer world influences (news, politics, refugees, environment, science, religion, daily social life) into his acts of shaping: Moving with art materials he is trying to catch dynamics of the turbulent Zeitgeist.

Louis van Marissing (Utrecht The Netherlands 1951) is living and working in Amsterdam.
